Despite
Despite the continual need for Urban Transport development, to understand the ongoing Eurozone debt crisis
posed serious challenges to project finance.
The majority of these are funded through central or municipal governments and thus there will be stringent
examination of any project proposals by banks and also their legal agents. Globalism has meant that cities,
hundreds of miles apart, now compete directly with each other. Effective transport and mobility are key factors
in locational preference ranking for international businesses. Therefore investment in transport must continue
in order to stay sustainable, improve efficiency, meet customer needs.
Who will you meet?
Urban Transport and Mobility Europe 2011 is designed to get the industry and the policy makers on one platform to discuss the importance of urban transport and to share opinions as to the future development plans for the major cities.
In particular, examples of practical solutions implemented in some cities will be presented in the fields of clean fuels, traffic management, non-motorized mobility, high quality public transport and integration with other sectors. Possibilities for financing environmentally sustainable modes of transport will be discussed as well.

Joe Weiss (City of London Corporation) introduces his topic:
“Railways are more than just transport means, they have played a major role in defining our cities. I will show how the expansion of London has been formed around the commercial expansion of private railways and how that relationship still exists in support of jobs growth or sustainable change within a metropolitan area.
Given that turn-key infrastructure projects take a generation or more to get going and so will carry through several changes of administration, I hope to illustrate the importance of linking political support to project promotion. As financing is intimate to both politics and practical delivery, I will also explore the means of attracting various funding sources other than having a reliance solely on central government.
The focus is our Crossrail project which at £16billions project is now starting construction across central London. You might pick up some tips from our proven success.”
